Dry Ice

Dry Ice is frozen carbon dioxide, a normal part of our earth's atmosphere. It is the gas that we exhale during breathing and the gas that plants use in photosynthesis. Dry Ice is particularly useful for freezing, and keeping things frozen because of its very cold temperature: -109.3°F or -78.5 ° C. Dry Ice is widely used because it is simple to convert to its frozen form and easy to handle using insulated gloves.

Ice & Snow Melt
[back to top of page]

If you live in a place that has lots of snow and ice in the winter, then you have probably seen the highway department spreading salt on the road to melt the ice. Salt lowers the freezing/melting point of water, so in both cases the idea is to take advantage of the lower melting point .

Ice forms when the temperature of water reaches 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius). When you add salt, that temperature drops: A 10-percent salt solution freezes at 20 F (-6 C), and a 20-percent solution freezes at 2 F (-16 C). On a roadway, this means that if you sprinkle salt on the ice, you can melt it. The salt dissolves into the liquid water in the ice and lowers its freezing point.

We have a variety of deicing products to address your specific temperature and environmental conditions.

Water Treatment
[back to top of page]

Water conditioning products improve the quality of water by helping to remove mineral deposits found in “hard water” areas. Softening the water results in purer water that is essential in many industrial processing applications and home uses. Removing mineral deposits from hard water minimizes plumbing repairs and reduces the amount of energy required to heat water, thereby increasing the operating efficiency of water heaters.
